New digs and temple wandering.

This morning we head for new digs in the Old Town. But first we said goodbye to this lovely bunch! A super family who we'd had breakfast chats with every morning.

A moat and old wall surrounds the town.
Yummy fruit smoothies at the Hideout.
Out on a Red Truck up into the mountains to Wat Phra Dat Doi Suthep temple. A Hindu/ Buddhist temple on the Doing Suthep mountain. The drive up was nauseating. Red trucks are great, but facing inwards round sharp bends and steep inclines at speed made us wanna throw up!
Only 309 steps to the top.

It's impressive, pagodas, bells and shrines a plenty. Everything gold and gleaming.
The boys get a  blessing and a bracelet from a Buddhist Monk.

Writing our names on the scroll.
Stupa Pagoda (Golden Chedi). It's spire reaches 79ft and it's where worshippers and monks go to meditate.
So golden, you need shades!

The view over Chiang Mai was amazing too.

Flower garden, mostly plastic but pretty!

And back down.
Hilltribe girls at bottom of steps pose for photos with you for coins.

We'd been promising the boys this for afew days. Read about it on someone else's blog. 'By Hand Pizzas' they were yum.

Music, massages, munching and markets.

Our day began with a surprise treat at breakfast. The very cool, extremely laid back, pretty hippy Frog was playing guitar and singing to us. What an awesome way to start the day. Not everyone thought so! Turns out he's the music teacher of one of the guys who works at the guesthouse. We had 'Hey Jude', 'Hotel California', 'Leaving on a jet plane', 'Rhinestone Cowboy' and the occasional random outburst of 'Puff the magic Dragon'! Surely everyone should be serranaded with retro rock at breakfast!
The day just gets better. We head into the first massage place we find. The lady phones her friends who arrive on scooters 5 minutes later. It's 3 foot massages and a full on Thai please!
Cheesy foot prep!

Freddy and Elliot spent their most quiet hour in these chairs. They very nearly fell asleep!
Happy days! Lots of oil, about 20 minutes on each foot and leg, then lotion and talc! Once they'd finished one leg you hardly knew it was there anymore!
Heaven, I'm in heaven!
We thought we were just getting legs and feet but we then had shoulders, back, arms, head, the works. Sublime😄.
Meanwhile, upstairs Mark was getting pummeled!  Body parts were pulled, kneaded and twisted whilst the merits of the Durian fruit were discussed. He appeared an hour later with a large grin!
We all floated down the road and into Butter is Better. Not very Thai, but the brownies called to us.
Into town for book shop hunt as El had run out of reading material.
SHADE!

Walking round the moat.
Local transport, Rot Daang. (Red truck)
The usual afternoon storm followed by rainbow.
Out to the Saturday walking market. So called cos it's blinkin' miles long!
Food like you've never seen before, ugly food, beautiful food, stinky food, crispy food, slimy food, living food, is it dead food? sculpted food, food wrapped in food, food on a stick, in a cone, on a leaf, you try it first food, let's get some  more food!
And that's just the food.
Endless rows of clothes, gifts, soaps, instruments, crafts, toys, music, bags etc. Felt like we'd walked to the next town.

Sausage on a stick.
Ancient icecream.
