Hola from Costa Rica (grab a cuppa, it's a long one!)

There's been a bit of a gap in the blog, it's been quite a manic few days but we are all well and very happy to be in Costa Rica.

Our flight was fine and we arrived at rush hour to a very dark and rainy welcome. Then the fun began, with our limited Spanish we piled in a taxi and off we went to our handy, near the airport apartment!! Ha ha. It was a free for all on the roads and because of the rain there were lots of accidents. It felt like we were in a car chase as we went off road alongside train tracks! Freddy somehow fell asleep! The driver was brilliant and we arrived about an hour later! The apartment was fab and Cristina our AirBnB host was really helpful but we were shattered, we ate some crackers and went to bed.

For me this was quite a low point, I was in a room with El and he was upset and just wanted to go home, I have to say, I did too. I think we all just felt overwhelmed and for the first time I really wanted just to stop. It was a real moment of doubt and missing things and feeling alone.

So, we slept, we showered, we went shopping, we ate, we organised uber and bus trips and before you know it we're back on track.

More wonderful people on the bus, thanks Suzanna, for your kindness and Spanish! A five hour bus journey, a few more thoughts of what the heck are we doing and then......paradise!

Juniee picked us up at Cahuita, took us shopping, gave us a tour and then bought us to this amazing Cabina. We stepped out of his car and the noise in the dark was amazing. Buzzing, humming, chirruping, howling, squeaking, booming. Woah!

Today has been so chilled, we've cooked (woohoo! This was really quite a moment) been to the beach, wandered, caught up on reading and journals all in this amazing jungle with toucans and monkeys and bugs! I think we've all squealed at least once after finding some giant crawly thing on us.

Okay, I'll shut up now. Just to say, after a rocky start we are all thrilled to be in Costa Rica.

Plane to catch!

Pure Life!

We made it.

Our garden for the next week.

Howler monkeys.

Our cabina, simple but perfect.

More garden.

Off to the beach.

Our fab cabina.
This tree became a spaceship!

Coconuts!

Drift trees.

Ohmmm.

A little windy, nice and warm and a lot  deserted!
Relaxing.
Cooking, ahhh, how I've missed this!

  1. ¡Qué bueno! The discouraging moments are temporary. Just think, if you were at home, you'd be thinking thinking about what might have been. Instead, you are learning and exploring and seeing new people places and things. Super!

  3. Eventually you've hit a serious culture shock....but you guys are ready for it!! It all reminds us so much of Sri Lanka from the crazy driving to the cabina to the deserted beach and warm sea....and insects too! We miss you guys so much but we think you've done such an amazing thing for yourselves and the boys....you really won't regret it, ever.

  6. Thanks guys. Deffo a culture shock we had it easy in the US. This is good though, good to be out of comfort zones. Just the same as what you are saying Lindsey, just all takes abit of getting used to. I'm loving basic though. It is like banham with the monkeys accept these ones sound like they may break in! You are not the only one Sheila whose messages come out twice! Love you all xxxx
