It's been a crazy and stressful couple of days but are finally feeling like we're back on it.
So I left you with us bundling onto a tuk tuk to a hotel in Mathura. We didn't see much of Mathura, birthplace of Krishna. We collapsed into the room and ordered some food. I inhaled mine!
We check out of the room with no plan other than guy from Jaipur should phone to let us know if a taxi is an option. We hang around the hotel for a couple of hours. We cannot get to Jaipur, protesters are still blocking roads and tracks.
There's a possibility of a taxi to Delhi but that's a four hour trip and it's now 1pm.
Our hotels not the greatest so we decide to book another online and stay the night hoping roads will reopen in the morning.
Another crazy tuk tuk ride. Thing about India is, if you think it won't all fit in a car of a tuk tuk it probably will!
We get to our new hotel only to be told there's been a mistake, there are no rooms! Aarrrggghh!!!
But there's a very nice man who says he can sort us a taxi to Delhi. We go for it. Book a hotel near airport and off we go.
Things we see from taxi.
We arrive back in at about 6pm. We fall into the room and order Dominoes pizza and sleep.
We are now in Hauz Khas, a district in the South of Delhi with parks and pavements. The lovely Dolly let us move our booking here from the end of the month to now. Thank you Dolly!
Our Uber driver Deepak what a fab guy. Insisted on us staying in his car for 15minutes whilst we waited to be met. Could've easily dumped us out in the heat.
Pigs and dogs in the park.
We stroll through the park to the shops. We buy groceries, fruit and veg. This is very exciting!
Dog on a bench.
We watch a cool game of Sunday cricket and have an interesting chat with some students about UK and Indian politics and religion.
FRUIT!!!
Dinner!!!
We have 3 nights in this apartment. We feel sad that we won't get to visit Jaipur but happy that things are back on track.
Again I feel bad. Looking back it was a mega couple of days and we were stressed, no doubt about it. I have since been reading lots online about Indian men's tendancy to stare, it's really interesting, you should look it up. I have read lots of blogs about females travelling alone in India and read no scary stories. I think we had a bad run of luck with the trains and just were not prepared for the stations and for our celebrity! That's not to say we exaggerated or imagined stuff but it was the combination of events that made each one seem more extreme.
I'm rambling......goodnight!
Well done Jo and Mark. phew! Glad you're back on track x
