I gotta say, after 241 days, 47 of which have been the hottest we have known , waking up with the thought of navigating our way around another new city, in the heat doesn't fill us with enthusiasm. Why can't we just sit in a coffee shop and read our books all day? Well we could, but the boys would probably last 30 minutes and we would have this niggling feeling that we are ignoring this crazy city when we may never be here again.
So, we get dressed and get out. "Let's see Bangkok by boat!" we say. "That'll save our tired feet. It'll be leisurely and relaxing".
OMG!! I was screamed at by a lady with a mega phone who was shouting extremely important instructions to everyone in Thai. I only asked if this boat was going to Memorial Bridge.
The river is a big, brown, choppy soup of boats pretty much going in any direction they can and not slowly.
Fighting back the tears after being scolded by a Thai lady in a Man U jacket!
They love a whistle here too. We try to work out if there's a secret code. And more mega phone rants as we feel told off even though we are doing nothing wrong!
We want to get off at Memorial Bridge. Mega phone won't let us, she says two more stops. We don't want to cross her but manage to disembark one stop down.
And then, a market. Oh how the boys love these. We fight our way through the deep fried chicken knees and giant minions. We need food.
The mega plaza is a curious mix of toys and guns! And it's fidget spinner madness. Honestly, every fidget spinner available to man is here. We send in cute Fred to do the bartering, works like a charm.
Yum, hot noodle soup with pork dumplings.
Back out into the heat and the Flower Market.
All these bagged blooms are threaded into garlands that decorate shrines and alters all over Bangkok.
And then, Wat Pho. Like no temple we have seen before. It's on an area about the size of Banham (well, that's what it feels like) And this reclining Buddha is 46m long and 15m high!
It's so bright!
In this Wat we are ushered in quickly and made to sit down.
Chinese Stone Dolls.
And we're done. We can take no more. Back to the hostel for a swim.
Omg I'm exhausted just reading about your day!!!! I suppose being screamed at in a foreign language is more frightening than your own, because the content is unknown?! Did U try smiling? Maybe she was having a bad day? Don't see many tourists, like U? Thank goodness for your pool. I'd,need to stay in it all day! Xxxx all love
ReplyDeleteThink we may just stay in the pool today! The whole boat experience was hilarious. People are quite pushy here. Can't help but view everything as a scam. Even someone in an official uniform, we find ourselves questioning their motives which is bad. Everyone wants to know where you are from and where you are going. At first we'd tell them everything, now we just smile and say "we're fine thanks" and keep walking. Hope your weather has improved and you are feeling better. Love you xxxx
