Delhi day 2

We are up and out at 8am to try and squeeze in some sights before it gets too hot.
We start at Humayuns Tomb. Humayuns was a Mughal Emperor.
This is the smaller and older tomb of Isa Khan.

It's beautiful and the grounds are awesome.

And here's the modest Humayuns Tomb. It was commissioned by his widow in 1569.
It's spectacular, and very peaceful.
Raven.
Kites.
Hornbill.
Next up India Gate war memorial.
We see much poverty in this area and are approached by countless men, women and children selling and begging.

And after that Gurudwara Bangla Sahib. A stunning Sikh Temple. We had a really interesting chat about the use of religious buildings with a teacher in the foreign visitors room. We then put on head scarves and removed our shoes before entering.

It was a happy atmosphere, there were three musicians playing and singing and heaps of people sitting, walking, worshipping.
Outside the Gurudwara, we were asked if we fancied a dip.
Contemplating in the temple.
We then visited the kitchen. An amazing amount of food is prepared here and shared freely. As we understood it wealthy people donate money to help keep the kitchen running.

Our last stop of the day is Jantar Mantar. A large site consisting of 13 architectural astronomy instruments. These are no longer in use because of the now built up surroundings.

It's interesting stuff, but it's hot. We head back to the hotel in the mad traffic and heat that is Delhi in June.

  1. 29 excellent examples of your day exploring. We especially liked the first one of Freddy alone on the steps. Mark looked 'real'in his headscarf shot, and Elliot's getting so tall. We love ur long hair. Good luck with hectic train journeys. All love,US xxxx xxxx
