Slight delay on this blog due to trains, phones out of charge etc.
Up and packed as tonight we leave Delhi. We cram everything into our Drivers car and are not too sad to be leaving hotel. Staff were a little odd and there was a mysterious phone that rang all through the night. We head to Qutb Minar, a beautiful tower and ruins.
Oh, and forgot to mention the most exciting thing about this morning, when we get to the roof for breakfast there's quite a breeze, it's cloudy too. "It's like the UK!" The boys shout. "It's great, best day ever!"
This second tower never got finished. Now it's home to pigeons and chipmunks.
Sleepy dog. Dogs are everywhere in Delhi in various conditions.
After a spot of lunch we head to the Lotus temple. The temple is for the Baha'i faith, a new independent world religion whose purpose is to unite all the people of the world in one universal Cause and one common faith.
We once again find ourselves part of the attraction too.
No photos are allowed inside and we have to be silent. It's a space for meditation and thought.
Heading back out.
Ladies carrying branches as we head to the train station.
Birds on the wires.
Our driver Mr Puran.
The station is mobbed and we immediately attract a lot of attention. Mostly friendly curious people. Some stares feel like they can penetrate your very soul, after a while it can become a little uncomfortable. We move around the station alot whilst we wait for out train.
And boy, we're not gonna forget this experience! The carriage is small and cramped, not much room for manouver. We have three top bunks and a bottom. We sit in a row on the bottom bunk whilst the rest of the carriage size us up. The boys are not happy! We are a little worried as more and more people join the bunks below ours, at one point there's five guys huddled together. Mark lets them know we have booked the bunks above. It seems that lots of people hang around hoping for a cancellation.
40 minutes late our train pulls away. We make up our beds and play bed swap til everyone's happy. The train stops alot. Various men jump on and walk up and down the carriages shouting about their food, water and Chai!
Off we trot to the loos. The one benefit of having a cold! They are both squat toilets and their condition at the start of the journey is questionable, by the end even my cold doesn't help. Oh boy, only four more trains to go!!
We all get some kind of sleep. The men in the bunks below, who are strangers, top and tail, that's cosy. By 5am I am awake and watching the world pass by from my window. It mainly consists of beautiful fields, trees, shabby villages and people squatting for a two!
Monkeys at the station.
The train stops, alot. 9.15am ( our exit the train time) comes and goes. Then men return selling food and drink. We surpress the need to pee. At around midday we arrive at Murghal Sahrai. And then the fun really begins..........
